No, I am not talking about people looking younger than their
age; but people who actually look 6-7 years younger than their age. And now I
know that is the case with me. I have like encountered more than 50 cases of
now where the world reminds me I don’t actually look a grown up girl sorry
rather an “adult”. Whenever I go to stationery shop the shopkeeper always asks
me that whether I am in 10th and giving my boards? This means I look
8 years younger. And then again I need to explain him that no I just love
shopping this stuff. I have never been taken seriously in shops and malls as
they think I am school going kid.
I am in my last year of CA internship; in my workplace also
all of the seniors exclaim I would look the youngest CA soon. So last week we
had a trip to Hyderabad for some audit related work. We were returning to
Ahmedabad in flight and the only seats which were available were those near the
emergency exits. We adjusted ourselves there. The air-hostesses came to do all
the formalities and check on the seat-belts and stuff. Amongst the two of them,
one of the attendants was continuously staring at me and smiling; I felt she
wanted to ask or tell me something. She then whispered something to the other
attendant. I ensured that I had seat-belt on, for that wasn’t reason for her to
stare. Suddenly in a confused tone she asked me “Excuse me, what is your age?”
I told casually, “I am 22”; and they both laughed. I couldn’t understand what
was going on. And then when they could believe that I was 22, she clarified
that it’s because below 18 aren’t allowed to sit near emergency exit. I didn’t know
what to react and everyone sitting in that row laughed. I was dumbfounded. I
felt little embarrassed. Obviously it’s good to look young. But it comes with
passing through such incidents in your life, where you never feel like laughing
and you are in confusion whether you should be glad about it.
And someone has truly said, “Looks don’t tell the truth”.
The kid sitting beside me in the flight had once asked me ,'Acha toh aap school mai nahi padhte ho?'.When I was soon going to wear '1 year industry experienced' badge!
